#WOMENOFTHESCRIPTURES Leah: Favored vs Favor

šŸ§ Leah? Who is she really? Well glad you asked! Leah was the daughter of Laban, the sister of Rachel, the 1st spoken wife of Jacob, and the mother of SEVEN of Jacobā€™s children. Now tradition was the eldest daughter is to be married 1st.. but, unfortunately, she was homely, whereas Rachel was beautiful (Genesis 29:17). Because of his love for Rachel, Jacob made a deal with Laban to work seven years for Rachelā€™s hand in marriage... And here is where Leah comes into the picture!

šŸ˜ž When I first read the story of Leah.. Gen 29:17 made me wonder why would The Most High allow that verse.. before walking this path of righteousness.. I thought it mean she was not pleasing to the eye hence why Jacob favored her sister.. who the Bible describes as beautiful and she was younger so I am sure Jacob felt she would bear many children! Most know how the story wentšŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø.. And we will get to that later..that is a key verse.. it really sets the tone and set up Leah for the win!

Ok... Scripts: Genesis 29:1-15 is basically setting the stage for how Jacob even meets these two sisters. He actually saw Rachel first and was smitten it even says a few verses down he loved her..

We see them introduced in verse 16-17 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

šŸ‘‰šŸ¾Tender eyed? What do you think that means scripture wise? I will answer that in Act2! But we see here the line has been drawn as to why most people say Leah was not attractive because it doesnā€™t say he had two beautiful daughters.. Here is says Leah was tender eyed and Rachel was favored and beautiful.. I thought when I first read this.. so Rachel is beautiful and Leah is just?? I did feel some kind a way.. BUT....Doesnā€™t it make sense as to why some of us deal with self esteem issues? #message Can you imagine the shame she felt when her Father tricked her into getting married for his own selfish needs.. ok I am jumping ahead... šŸ˜³.. but two things I love about Leah:

šŸ„‡Obedience

šŸ„‡Perseverance

Any other traits you can think of? Jot them down and see what we find together!

Ecclesiastes 3:11 - He hath made every [thing] beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

So I wanted to start off here just to lay the foundation and now I see how much makes sense it makes why there is a law against marrying sisters: Leviticus 18:18 Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.. BUT as we journey through this scriptures.. we see who was favored by man.. and who received FAVOR from The Most High..
