Esther is about 10 chapters!! While I do implore you to read the entire book.. I will be taking excerpts from the Book of Esther to save time AND to discuss the women.. So Esther 1 Goes into to telling us what type of king Ahasuerus was..they had all kinds of feast that were decked out etc.. Vashti, the queen.. also had feasts for the women. Things go left in verse 10: On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king, To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on. But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him. The king wanted Vashti to come and I assume play her role as queen and be admired etc.. Just to showup his ego a little to I suppose! Lol so Vashti refused.. 🤷🏾♀️.. Now this did NOT sit too well with the king nor his guests and officers of his house.. these were men who knew the law as well according to verse 13: Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment: At the end of the day we are commanded to be submissive to our husbands AND in those days we were to be respectful and obedient to the king as well... So what do you think happened next.. Well we do know this is how Sis Esther makes her entrance..
NOW here is my gripe. It does not matter the reason.. her husband gave an order and it would have not killed her to make an appearance.. he was also king..and that showed lack of respect, embarrassment to their house, and soo much more..While some say Vashti was justified in her actions, because the request was stupid and prideful..ok, point taken. However, she was very bold in her actions and refused..not only husband but the king.. Sirach 22:5 is clear: She that is BOLD dishonored both her father and her husband, but THEY BOTH shall DESPISE her. How does this look upon her house.. She had a choice to build or tear down her house [Proverbs 14:1 has become a popular scripture in these studies] Will Vashti have a change of heart to appease her husband, the king??
