David I am sure was 1st surprised to see her and then when she spoke with wisdom I believe he was in awe... David took heed and he blessed The Most High for sending her [important], then her for coming forth and stopping what could have been detrimental to his house in the long run. Abigail stopped David from avenging himself [Deuteronomy 32:35, Romans 12:17-19]! This is where I figured out why understanding was mentioned first when the scripture described her. Although this was the affairs of men.. Abigail went to show peace NOT discord. Unlike some women I see today.. When I was on social media I found that disgusting!
